A group of dedicated individuals wanting to make a difference in the lives of people with Autism climbed Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe Route to summit Uhuru Peak (@ 5895m) between the 20th – 28th November 2009 under the lead of Sean Wisedale. The mission: “To put Autism on Top of Kilimanjaro”!
Mytrade is proud to share their contributions to Autism Western Cape's campaign to raise awareness for Autism. Besides for following the Kilimanjaro journey with a hawks eye on Twitter, Mytrade launched a Charity Auction where the winning bidder had their company logo printed on a flag that was showcased on top of Kilimanjaro (Uhuru Peak), the highest point in Africa. The idea behind the auction as to raise awareness, as well as funds for kids living with Autism. With 2789 unique visits, the auction went down to the wire and was eventually sold for R12,050 to Digitaldistributors
Mytrade founder, JP van der spuy comments "I have always had the utmost respect for Gerhard Pieterse (the man behind AWC), he dares the impossible and not even the highest free-standing mountain in the World will stop his quest to raise awareness for Autism".
According to Gerhard, the journey was a million times more physically and mentally challenging than he could have ever imagined. "There were times where I doubted my own ability, but thinking of all the millions of kids living with Autism gave me the courage to push forward. After days of rain, snow and grueling winds, the crew finally reached Uhuru Peak at 8:15am Friday morning, 27 November 2009. Lots of tears and man hugs at Stella Point and Uhuru Peak"
Thank You to Autism Western Cape who was willing to support us in turn by showcasing the Mytrade Brand on Top of Kilimanjaro, the highest point on the African continent! Thank you to Zoopy, Afrigator, Sean Wisedale and everyone else who has made this campaign possible.
